SUBJECT: NSCC BEGINS PROCESSING THE iSHARES S&P INDEX SECURITY
The National Securities Clearing Corporation has enhanced its index security processing system to include an additional iSharesm, that will be traded on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (the other iShare products trade on the American Stock Exchange). iShares represent ownership in open-ended investment companies registered under the 1940 Act. They were established to accumulate and hold portfolios of common stocks intended to track the price performance and dividend yield of various well-known indices. NSCC released an Important Notice, A 5090, P&S 4652, dated May 3, 2000, NSCC Enhances Its Domestic Index Security System to Process iShares, to describe the initial fourteen iShares based on domestic component stocks that began trading on May 19, 2000 and May 26, 2000. The second and third wave of iShare products began trading on June 16, 2000 and July 28, 2000, respectively and were described in Important Notice, A5117, P&S 5677, dated June 26, 2000. The S&P 100 Index iShare will begin trading on September 29, 2000 and is described below:

The existing and well-established creation and redemption procedures, reporting structures, files, and reports that was used for the first three waves of iShares will be retained for the iShare S&P 100 Index.

NOTE: In preparation for creation and redemption activity, NSCC is scheduled to add the new iShare portfolio to its Domestic Portfolio Composition File (PCF) on or about Monday, September 18th. This file also contains other index security portfolios: DIAMONDS, SPDRs, MidCap SPDRs, the nine Select Sector SPDRs, and the Nasdaq 100 Shares as well as the first, second and third group of iShares already trading. |
